In Nova Era, you become the leader of a civilization, developing it through territory expansion, technology research, and enlisting famous personalities. The game unfolds over three eras, each consisting of three rounds followed by a scoring phase.

Each round begins with players selecting dice from available zones, with the total value influencing the level of unrest in their civilization. Players then use the dice to perform various actions, such as developing technologies, gaining resources, enlisting personalities, expanding territories (in later eras), repairing damaged cards, and reducing unrest.

The game features mechanics like technology obsolescence, where new discoveries can replace older ones, and a system of disasters and the Dark Age, presenting challenges that require strategic planning.
