The Brilliant Stars expansion, released on February 25, 2022, was the ninth set in the Pokémon TCG: Sword & Shield series. This expansion introduced the VSTAR mechanic, a new evolution of Pokémon V that featured powerful VSTAR Powers, which could be used only once per game. Some of the most notable Pokémon VSTAR in the set included Arceus VSTAR, Charizard VSTAR, and Whimsicott VSTAR, each offering unique game-changing abilities.

Another highlight of Brilliant Stars was the introduction of the Trainer Gallery subset, which featured 30 special full-art cards depicting Pokémon alongside their Trainers. This made the set highly appealing to collectors, with standout cards such as Umbreon VMAX and Sylveon VMAX.

The expansion also included Rainbow Rare cards, Gold Secret Rares, and Full-Art Pokémon V to enhance collectibility. With 172 cards (excluding Secret Rares and Trainer Gallery cards), Brilliant Stars quickly became a fan-favorite set due to its blend of competitive and collectible cards, marking an exciting addition to the Pokémon TCG.
